I was beyond thrilled to be asked to create lettering artwork for the LA Times “Image” section feature on Juneteenth that posted this weekend on June 18th, 2022. Their Juneteenth feature went live and it was so exciting to see my artwork in various places on their site and their Instagram account.
When I received the project, I knew I needed to do a piece that would honor the culture, the history and the sensitivity of it. They gave me a solid brief to work from with examples of my work that they liked for inspiration. I turned in a few concepts and was pleased to see they selected the one I loved the most.
I added symbolism to the letters and used the red/green/yellow color scheme I was asked to use. I created a black version and vector and painted versions for this project that they used in different places on the site.
Check out their Instagram post with a cool video using my artwork. Go here.
I am very happy with how it came out and loved seeing it in this important feature. Thanks LA Times for thinking of me on this special project.
